Samothrace is a Greek island in the northernmost part of the Aegean Sea. The capital is the city of Chora.
Fantastic beaches and crystal clean sea water attract the lovers of beach holidays. The most popular sandy beaches are Pachia Ammos Beach and Vatos Beach. In the north of the island not far from Therma village, there is a very beautiful Kipos Beach.
Therma is the main destination for the wellness tourists because there are clinics with its hot sulfur mineral sources known since the Byzantine times. If you want to relax, there are natural baths.
Those who prefer the excursion tourism, will want to go to the capital city of Samothrace where there are many sights. In a cozy city Chora, the Turkish, Greek and Tracian cultures exist in harmony. During an excursion, the tourists will see Galutstsi Fortress. The Museum of folklore stores a huge collection of everyday objects and clothes of the citizens of ancient Samothrace.
Do not limit yourself to the city and visit Paleopolis village which is 3 kilometres away from Chora. Not far from the village, you will find the Sanctuary of the Great Gods. The Sanctuary consists of the rooms where such initiation rites as Anaktoro and Temenos took place.
The most interesting natural sights are Kremesta Nera Waterfalls and Vukos slopes all covered with the olive trees.
The foodies will enjoy their food in such restaurants as Karydes, Lefkos, Pyrgos and Akrogiali.
